I closed my eyes and imagined myself running a hand across the surface of the water that filled the well of my magic, frozen for so long. I rubbed the frost that came away between my fingers. I opened my eyes and the goddess was sharper, clearer.
So were the heads of the Pantheon, her brothers and sisters, speared atop the poles held by the nine men.
